After a long gap working on other projects :( , I've finally tracked down a bug in my download and merging program that was causing a very small calibration error. :D

Given a central OS Grid, number of tiles in x and y, and a scale, the program will download all the data from OS Get-a-map and merge it together into a single calibrated image (handling the overlap of the copyright message). Once downloaded the image can be reduced in resolution to give a specific final image size (for most PDAs you want this to be less than 16MB), and you can import and overlay trail files to view them.

The program delays between tiles of the download to prevent hitting the OS server with too many requests in quick succession.

The software is now available for download from
http://www.akadamia.co.uk/html/downloads.html

Please let me know whether you find it useful.
Ken

Another source of maps - not just the UK - is Open Street Map http://www.openstreetmap.org These are street maps, not footpaths or contours and are still being added to but definitely have their uses. There is a tool http://alpo.hassinen.googlepages.com/osm-map which downloads tiles and creates a .map file. The calibration conversion program will create a .mcd from this.

Ken,

I just signed up to the borad to say thanks for making your map download program and for allowing other users to download it.

I have been using Dr Matts OS Gps software for a while (I even helped him debug a few PPC2002 issues) but it always took me ages to download the individual tiles from streetmap and stitch them back together.

I did write a small prog to help me do that, but it was nowhere near as usefull as your offering :D

Thanks again, and thanks to Matt too for his software.

Stuart
