Hi Frank, I think you are running these two on the same machine as I am - HTC Wizard, Qtek9100 etc, etc. I had real problems with TomTom and assigning a serial port, so what I did with GPSMap-OS was to load up Franson GPS splitter - and then change the GPS receiver port in TomTom to the one which sa...

Hi Simon, As you say this is possibly machine dependant. I have a number of other programs using up the memory on my PDA/Phone which use up a lot of memory - esp TomTom. This seems to eat memory up. It is not too bad though as the total area of maps I can load is more than adequate for what I need.

Thanks Dr Matt...I did suspect as much. I have been playing around with map resolutions and sizes. I scanned part of an OS 1:50,000 of Yorkshire Dales for my test around Hawes. I got the resolution to around 80 dpi and it was still very legible and with a total image size of 101Kb (card size - don't...

Hawes in Wharfedale to Apperset and Hardraw

This is a trail from Hawes in Wharfedale, through Apperset and heading towards Hardraw. The trail stops before Hardraw though as the battery on the GPS went flat :x

The GPS is very good on its accuracy but it tells lies on its charging state.

Google Eart Accuracy..

By way of reply to myself. I have now used the GPSMap OS v1.5 and this allows me to track my route and save as a .kml file. This file will simply load into Google Earth and show the route you travelled. Simple but brilliant for me 'cos I like to mark my walking routes on the my maps so I am not doin...

Hi Mark, All I did was copy the .exe file across using Active sync into put it into the My Documents folder on the PDA. I then went into My Documents on the PDA using File Explorer and then cut and pasted the .exe file into windows>start menu>programs. A dialog came up asking "This file a...

Hi Mark, I'm using a JRT-29 Bluetooth GPS which I got off eBay for 23 quid inc postage. The seller had plenty for sale. It is probaly a generic type of unit. This is the same type of unit, but not the same seller. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Bluetooth-42-Channel-GPS-receiver-device-PDA-Car...

GPSMap OS V 1.5 - Comments on

I installed the new version earlier and then went out and had a walk to test it so I could make a .kml file to download into Google Earth. I did a couple of miles or so on the road & fields surrounding my house and when I got back to the front door I saved the route. I have just loaded it into G...

Which Device Do You Use GPSMap OS on ???

I have mine working on an unlocked HTC Wizard with an updated ROM flashed onto it, (petty much the same as a T-Mobile MDA, O2 XDA, Q-Tek 9100) running Windows Mobile 5 with a 2Gb SD card as storage. This gets its GPS from a Bluetooth GPS receiver. Seems to work very well. I also use it to run TomTom...

Problems Loading Map Images

Hi Everyone, I seem to have difficulties loading some maps. I have tried saving the map image in different formats i.e. .png, .bmp, .jpg but I keep getting the dialog box Error - "Failed to load map" What are the format limitations, and what is the best format? i.e. size, pixel per i...

Google Earth Co-Ordinates

I have been experimenting with the GPS Map OS software and I decided to load a detailed OS map of my home and surrounding area into my PDA. This map was taken from Promap and used vector data as I needed to use it in AutoCAD. I converted the ACAD drawing into a .png image and it loaded fine. In orde...

Thanks for reply Dr Matt. I know that 3-4 metres isn't too bad, I suppose I'm just being a tad pedantic  That update sounds great. 8) In fact I had my pda and gps receiver in the car with me today and the tracking on it was absolutely bang on (except for the offset  ) within the map I lo...

Offsetting for poor calibration information with GPS Map OS

I have to say that I'm amazed by this program and its versatility too. Something that uses OS map references not just Long & Lat is a bonus !! I copied & loaded a map tile from Streetmap in the area I live. At a certain zoom they give the OS Contour lines too. The calibration data I had was ...
