Great app, really useful and seems to work faultlessly.

Would be great if the app could 'predict' what map you want to use based on your current gps position. As you have to calibrate the maps the app should be able to work out the maximum and minimum co ordinates on the map and load it if it is between those coordinates.

Would also be good if there was an option to override the power settings so that the device doesn't go to sleep. When my device goes to sleep the app looses sync with my GPS receiver.

Thanks for the words of praise and the suggestions - it's always good to hear from new people finding and using the program.

The automatic loading of the right map function has been on the wishlist for a long while, it's related to the idea of breaking the map images into tiles so that large maps can be loaded on demand - unfortunately I just never seem to have the time to get around to it.

Somebody volunteered to look at adding some of this to the code (which is all freely available from the website should anybody want a crack at it) a while back, and reported some initial success, but since then I haven't heard from him

The power-off thing seems to depend upon the type of device you have: mine, an iPAQ 2210, appears to stay on for as long as my bluetooth GPS receiver is connected. Depending on your device you can normally disable the auto-power off function, but ideally I suppose that should be an option of GPSMap so you don't run out your batteries - eg. a "disable auto power-off when GPS is connected" setting. I'll add it to the TODO list for looking at!

Have downloaded and used for a couple of months the GPSMap-OS and its a great little application. A nice little addition would be to autoload the last loaded map. It is very frustrating to have to reload the map every time the application is restarted. I have done a bit of programming in the past but it is very rusty currently. I would have a go if you could identify a freeware C++ editor /compilor for a Mac.

Unfortunately you have no chance of coding for Windows Mobile on a Mac.. However I will ensure I put the auto-load of last map option in the next release of GPSMap. A new release is long overdue; I have made several improvements but not had time to finish/polish them yet. More sticky note reminders around the house might get me started ?
