Can't install or use on HTC S620

Postby kerzo on Tue May 27, 2008 9:52 pm

Hi everyone,

I am currently trying to use both GPSGo and GPSMap on my HTC S620 Smartphone which is running Windows Mobile 6.

When I try to use the WM .exe I get the error message along the lines of "Can't find GPSMap (or one of it's components). Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all the required libraries are available"

I tried the PPC version out of interest and it actually ran but all that appears is "GPS:" in the top left hand corner of the screen, "Sel:" on the bottom left and "New" on the menubar which is clickable but doesn't actually do anything or bring anything up.

If anyone could help me out it would be greatly appreciated as this piece of software would be really useful for me!

Thanks
kerzo

hi Kerzo,

did u try setting up the com port number and baud rate in GPS->Settings?
Also, i guess you are connecting a bluetooth GPS to your device, hence ensure there is a proper paring before you set com port and baud rate.

pl try the above and let me know if it works!!

thanks
Sunil.

Hi Sunil,

I can't actually do anything with the program, I am guessing there is some incompatability with WM6 as I assume this was written for WM5 (not sure if there is much of a difference)! Might be an easy fix or not, hopefully the developer may be able to shed more light?

BTW - I have the bluetooth receiver set up properly and working with other programs anyway!

Thanks for the reply

hi Kerzo,

Thanks for your feedback,

I suggest you read this link, there is a suggestion by Dr.Matt on using this software on WM5, regarding WM6 I do not have sufficient knowledge to help you out.

hope this helps for time being till someone actually gives correct suggestion.

regards

The main problem here is that you're trying to run an application that is designed only to operate on the full PocketPC operating system, and that includes having a full menu bars rather than just the two hot keys and really wants a touch-screen input device. It's also not designed to run on vanilla "Windows CE" which several other devices (sat nav boxes for example) are based upon, although some people have reported getting it to work via a few hacks with dlls.

Of the current WM 5 and 6 operating systems the program will run on "Windows Mobile Classic" (old WM5 name "Windows Mobile for Pocket PC") and "Windows Mobile Professional" (old WM5 name "Windows Mobile for Pocket PC Phone Edition").

I do have plans this year to upgrade my development environment, and that will mean being able to explicitly build executables that target smartphones and the newer WM5 and WM6 devices natively. Until then though, you may be out of luck..

I assume your device is running "Windows Mobile Standard" as it is now called?
